$100,000 given to charity by Girls on Top adventurers  Minimize

Each year Girls on Top selects one team from hundreds of Australian women who apply to join us on an adventure of a lifetime. Our high altitude fundraising expeditions introduce women with passion, vision and a willingness to make a difference in the world to people and places on the planet that support the spirit of adventure and the ethic of contribution.

Before our team heads into the real hills, each member climbs a ‘mountain’ of her own, here at home, creating interest and support from thousands of men and women, businesses and media by hosting an event or creating a plan to raise at least $3,000 - ALL of which supports an existing organisation working to protect wilderness, wildlife and human communities in the world’s remote corners. Women on our teams have created fashion parades, art exhibitions, cookie drives, bowling events, a yoga retreat, casino night, dolphin show, film screenings and handmade card business to provide funds for Girls on Top's charity partners.

Since our first climb, Kilimanjaro, in 2004, Girls on Top expeditions have raised $100,000 toward projects supporting human life and biodiversity in Africa, the Amazon and Himalaya. Our legacy is carried across all Australian states, five nations, a dozen supporting businesses and hundreds of people in Australia and overseas who have been touched, moved or motivated by what ordinary people can do with extraordinary goals.

2004 Kilimanjaro for Zimbabwe Orphans
Jade Richardson travelled to Zimbabwe with Australian charity Aid for Africa Down Under to meet the children of Lirhanzo Orphanage, struggling for a chance at life in the midst of and AIDS, drought and political regime which was forecast to decimate the population by half that year. On their behalf, the first evet Girls on Top team made the 5,985 climb of Africa’s highest mountain, Kilimanjaro and hosted fundraising events to raise $15,000 which continues to provide vital water to the Orphanage and eight surrounding villages.
2005 Andes to Amazon - wildlife rescue
A new Girls on Top team trekked up to 10 hours a day for nearly two weeks at altitudes around 5,100 metres, then travelled into the jungle for an Amazon Renovation Rescue. They spent two weeks working on business and marketing strategies as well as co-ordinating and funding the re-building, fit out and stock for a small shop and education centre. $12,000 raised provided fencing for security of habitat and animals at the centre, as well as supporting the ongoing medical, food and education needs at Peru’s only official animal rescue centre.
Himalaya 2006 - Ancient Futures
Asia’s immense Himalaya was the next natural step, and Girls on Top were captivated by the tiny jewel of Ladakh, hub of the ancient spice route, nestled between India, Kashmir and China. Our third team hosted 6 events in 3 States raising funds to support Indigenous communities and the enrichment of traditional knowledge and lifestyle through the Ladakh Women’s Alliance. Girls on Top made a 12 day high altitude crossing of three major passes through the Himalaya, raised more than $23,000 toward our cause, equipped a local school with sports and writing materials and spent one week living with families in a traditional Ladakhi village.
Andes to Amazon 2008 - Amazon Health Clinic and Wildife Rescue
Our fifth expedition continues our support of habitat, rescue and education work in the Amazon – as well as to linking Girls on Top’s work in the world to improving understanding, cultural unity and leadership here in Australia through a new Indigenous Scholarship Opportunity. Funds raised by our 6 team members will fund the work of the Amazon Animal Rescue Centre, a vital link in education and conservation work in the region, as well as Amazon Promise, www.amazonpromise.org a medical outreach charity which brings international volunteer health care to isolated and displaced Indian communities. We are in negotiations with an Indigenous leadership project in Australia that will allow us to contribute to improving life opportunities and cultural awareness here at home.
