What can I say; I am in an emotional wave of excitement and nervousness. I think excitement is winning, but now I have to pull off the charity casino event of the year.
My journey began when we received the email calling for the next ‘Glamazon’ Girl on Top. Almost immediately I was picking my brain for ideas for a fun charity event that would actually work. I had quite a few ideas (most of them were definitely not realistic), however after running through a few of the more realistic ideas with my colleagues, I finally decided on the casino evening, Casino Tombee Du Jour (means Casino evening in french). I now had my event, the next step; make it happen.
My event occupied my mind for the next few weeks, where would be the perfect venue, what is food and wine going to cost, how man casino tables do I need, who will attend? The list went on and on and on. While half my head was occupied with my event, the amazing adventure with our trek from the Andes to the Amazon and the animals of the animal orphanage were occupying the other half. I was even dreaming about the trip (I dreamt a pair of trekking pants converted into my sleeping bag).
During the few weeks I had to submit my application I investigated the best way for my event to work and made the most of any contacts I had. I then submitted my application and waited. At this stage I was determined to host my event even if I didn’t win, I had organised so much already and couldn’t waste all that time I had invested.
When the phone call finally came and I found out I was 1 of 4 finalists from all over Australia I couldn’t believe it. Now I really had to get into gear and prove that I was the right person for the trip of a lifetime and that my event was going to be a huge success. With the help of friends and colleagues I managed to put my presentation together and was as ready as I could be when it came time to walk through the door into a room full of wonderful, amazing and successful women.
During the interview, rather than feeling intimidated I felt honoured, that I had the opportunity to show these wonderful women that I was who they were looking for, that I had the strength as well as the emotional understanding to take on this awesome life changing adventure. To have the opportunity to meet these women and show them who I really am was enough for me, but to actually win, that capped it off for me.
When the phone call came from Jade, telling me that I was going to be this years Girl on Top it took a while to comprehend. I was at the train station and had to use all my will power not to jump around and start yelling. It was such a great feeling to know that all the hard work and organisation I had done was going to pay off, and to know that I was chosen not just for my event idea but for being who I am and having the personality that fits with all these wonderful women. Now here I am the Village Roadshow Girl On Top and I am definitely looking forward to my adventure to come.
